Mr. Rodney Barr, JCSD’s Athletic Director, is moving full speed ahead on the development and design of the JCSD Athletic Program. He is in the process of hiring coaches and developing new programs so that our student-athletes have the options and support that they need. Mr. Barr was recently
featured on the Lowcosports.com Podcast where he discussed his vision for athletics in Jasper County School District. In the interview he said, "my job is to make student-athletes successful." He also discussed the rich history of Jaguar/Hurricane athletics and how important it is to build upon the work already done.
Mr. Barr also spoke on making sure student-athletes;
• Develop Physically-
- Get kids into the weight room and provide proper programming so that kids can grow as athletes.
• Develop Fundamentally-
-Provide proper leadership/coaching for each sport.
-Develop middle school sports to be feeder programs for high school sports.
-Expand sports offered (addition of golf, wrestling, cross country and tennis) to provide sports offering to more students and provide diversity for multisport training.
• Develop Mentally / Socially-
- Provide guidance counseling specifically designed for student athletes. -Make home visits so that coaches get to know athletes, personally.
Jasper County School District's motto is, "Student-Centered...Future-Focused." Mr. Barr represents how that mantra is being infused into JCSD's athletic program. Mr. Barr astutely adds, "The greatness that Ridgeland-Hardeeville can be, is going to be dependent upon all of us coming together for the common good of our young people... we want to provide the best opportunity for every young person that we encounter ... By doing that, we put ourselves in a position where we can ALL benefit."
